Commute Another Way Week is an annual statewide event that promotes the use of carpools, vanpools, public transit, bicycling and walking as cost-effective, healthy and enjoyable alternatives to driving alone to work. Commute Another Way Week is coordinated by GoMaine! and the Maine Department of Transportation. Events are scheduled to occur statewide from Monday May 17 to Friday, May 21.

Commute Another Way Event in Machias : Thank you!
In a cool , rainy morning, 22 local residents who “commute another way” made it out for the Commute Another Way event on Thursday, May 20 at Machias Saving Bank. Most of those on-hand carpooled to the event. Attendees included both those who carpool everyday as well as occasional carpoolers and telecommuters.

Among attendees, the most common reason cites for carpooling was to save money. Two attendees, who have been carpooling from Addison for over 5 years, said they had recently estimated that by carpooling they had each saved over 27,000 miles of wear-and-tear on their vehicles.
