Harbor Management Plans

Coastal community's in Maine are increasing confronted with issues around coastal access, balancing recreational and working waterfronts uses at public piers boat launches and harbors, securing access to tidal waters and intertidal resource for commercial harvesters, funding dredging and other pier and harbor maintenance activity, et cetera.

A Harbor Management Plan helps communities  think though these complex issues and prioritize public investment in harbor infrastructure and develop public policy solutions to effectively manage coastal resources.

WCCOG staff have worked with the Town of Harrington and Machiasport to development Harbor Management Plans addressing these and other issues.

Grants to assist in developing Harbor Management Plans are periodically available. Please contact Judy East at 454-0465 for more information.

More information about Harbor Management Planning and a variety of resources are available through Maine SeaGrant and the Maine Coastal Program.

Community Energy Plans
In the past, the choices community have made about energy use were often made in a piecemeal fashion. In the context of rising energy costs, a community energy plan looks broadly at energy use throughout a community - including municipal energy use, and the impact of municipal policies (such as transportation, energy disposal, and housing) on community-wide energy use.

Grants to develop community energy plans are periodically available. For more information, contact Judy East at 454-0465.

No trainings or workshops are scheduled at the present time.
